Filloramo Sweeps CCC Field Athlete & Rookie of the Year

CCC RELEASE

BIDDEFORD, Maine – Caitlyn Filloramo of the Suffolk women's outdoor track & field team garnered recognition from the Commonwealth Coast Conference (CCC) as the Rams' rookie took home both CCC Field Athlete and Rookie of the Year behind a standout freshman campaign, the league office announced Monday afternoon.

Voting for the major awards was conducted by the seven CCC women's track & field head coaches during the week following the 2022 CCC Championships, where the Rams finished third. All-conference distinction, meanwhile, is determined at the CCC Championship meet. Gold medal winners earn First-Team All-CCC with silver medalist being named to the second-team and bronze medalist recognized as third teamers.

A product of Southport, Connecticut, Filloramo was the most decorated field student-athlete at the CCC Championships April 30, as she garnered three all-conference awards including individual medalist in the hammer throw. Additionally, the first-year sealed second place and a spot on the conference' second-team in the shot put with a personal-best 10.93-meter heave and took third in the discus.

Filloramo is the first Ram in program history to garner any major award from the CCC and is the first-ever conference field athlete of the year in the record books. The sweep of both athlete and rookie of the year in one event is also a first for a blue-and-gold competitor. She is the second Suffolk student-athlete to be named a league's field rookie of the year, first since Allison Rodrigues earned the distinction from the GNAC in 2009.

The all-conference accolades are added to already a heavy shelf of accomplishments for Filloramo this season. She was recognized seven times by the league with weekly nods – five field rookie and two field athlete of the week -- and earned All-New England status in the hammer throw a week ago for her performance at regionals.

Filloramo will be back in action this weekend when she represents the Rams at the NEICAAA Championships.
