Women’s Track & Field Continues Weekly CCC Awards Haul

BIDDEFORD, Maine – Suffolk women's track & field saw three athletes garner four of the Commonwealth Coast Conference's (CCC) weekly awards after their performances at the Suffolk Invite of the Week. Amanda Walden swept the track awards with athlete and rookie of the week, respectively, while Allison Rodrigues garnered her third straight Field Athlete of the Week honor and Lauren Wood picked up Field Rookie of the Week, the league office announced Monday afternoon.

Walden sprinted her way to her second straight award sweep. The freshman from Foxboro, Massachusetts won the 100 and 200 once again to keep her collegiate record perfect. She was 0.01 second shy of her personal-record in the 100, finishing the stretch in 13.09 to top the seven-runner field. In the 200, meanwhile, she clocked a 27.25 in the half lap around the track to beat her six opponents. The honors bring Walden's career total to four as she swept the first nods of the 2021 campaign on April 12.

Wood joined Walden in the 100 and claimed fourth with a time of 14.12. It wasn't Wood's running that got her a weekly accolade though, instead it was the Gloucester, Massachuetts' native's jumping. The freshman's long jump leap of 4.66 put her atop the four-jumper field. The win is the first in her collegiate career. She is the second Ram to be tabbed the best field rookie over a seven-day stretch this season as Grace Dreher was the first two weeks ago.

Rodrigues continued her reign as the league's best fielder over a week with another perfect performance at the Suffolk Invite. The junior from North Andover, Massachusetts, won all four throwing events again to keep her winning streak alive. Her highlight of the weekend was a personal-record hammer throw toss of 39.21, which is good for the 14th-best mark in New England this year. She also took first in the discus (29.59), shot put (10.74) and javelin (29.31).

Suffolk's women's outdoor program now has nine weekly honors this year. Four belong to Walden and Rodrigues owns three. Wood and Dreher are responsible for the other two.

The trio look to continue the stellar season at the 2021 CCC Championships this Sunday, May 2 at Roger Williams in Portsmouth, Rhode Island.
