Women’s Track & Field Participates at Gordon Invite

BEVERLY, Mass. – Suffolk women's track & field compete in its second event of the season, the Gordon Invite, Saturday afternoon at the Brigham Athletic Complex.

The Rams took on fresh foes in Nichols, Roger Williams and Salve Regina, and battled the hosts Fighting Scots for the second straight week. Once again, the blue-and-gold had standout showings, winning five of the 10 events it participated in.

Allison Rodrigues shined. For the second time in as many invitationals, the North Andover, Massachusetts, native topped the three fielding events she competed in to keep her junior season perfect. Rodrigues registered a personal-best in the hammer throw with a 37.66-meter toss to finish first in the seven-player pack. She earned her place atop the 11-member field in the shot put (10.64) and discus (27.77) as well.

Rodrigues was not the only Ram to remain unbeaten through two weeks of competition in 2021. Amanda Walden can say the same. The freshman won the 100 and 200 again to keep her collegiate record perfect. The Foxboro, Massachusetts clocked a 13.33 in the 100 and crossed the 200 tape in 27.37 to top both 11-runner fields.

Megan Qualters ran one time around the track in 1:13.14 to finish six out of nine to round out Suffolk's sprinters.

Mai Linh Vankirk was the Rams' lone long-distance runner. She took fifth in the 5000 behind a 20:46.04 performance.

Nicole DiBenedetto competed in the high jump (1.37) and Lauren Wood tried the long jump (4.71).

The Rams will be back in action Sunday, April 25 when it hosts the Suffolk Invite at Hingham High School.
