WENHAM, Mass. – Suffolk women's track & field participated in its first event since 2019 Saturday afternoon as the Rams lifted the lid on its scheduled at the Gordon Invite at the Brigham Athletic Complex.
Suffolk won eight of the nine events a Ram competed in and set two program records.
In her collegiate debut, Amanda Walden impressed. The freshman won both the 100 and 200, respectively. In the 100, she clocked a 13.08, good for the ninth-best time in New England this season, while she posted a Rams' record 26.84 in the 200 with the second-best performance in the region this year.
Walden's classmate Jocelyn Triscik also shined in her first meet with a first-place finish in the 400. The Rams' rookie topped the five-runner field, which also featured Suffolk's Megan Qualters, behind the 11th-best time in New England, 1:03.37. Qualters, meanwhile, took fourth, finishing one lap around the track in 1:10.91.
Suffolk's Class of 2024 continued to make the most of its collegiate outing as Sydney Fogg captured the 1500. The York, Maine's crossed the tape in 5:00.54, the 12th-best performance in New England in 2021. Mai Linh Vankirk and Natalie Fay were also in the 13-runner field. The junior and senior finished one after another in seventh and eighth, respectively, separated by nearly three seconds.
In the jump events, Grace Dreher produced a program record in the triple jump of 9.48, which is the 10th-best performance in the region this year, to take first in the event. The Rams' freshman also competed in the long jump where she took fourth behind a 4.52-meter leap. Her classmate, Lauren Wood, placed second in the event with a 4.78-meter hop.
Allison Rodrigues was no match for her competitors in the fielding events. The junior won the shot put, discus, hammer throw and javelin easily. The North Andover, Massachusetts native tossed the shot put 11.40 meters and the javelin 34.12 meters, the fifth and seventh-best performances in New England. In discus, she had a 31.78-meter throw, and in the hammer she had a 32.78-meter showing.
The Rams will return to Wenham, Massachusetts next weekend, Saturday, April 17 for the second Gordon Invite.
