Women’s Track & Field and two Rams Pick Up USTFCCCA All-Academic Nods

NEW ORLEANS – Suffolk women's track & field grabbed academic accolades as the Rams earned a spot on the U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Association's All-Academic Team and juniors Emily Manfra and Emma Weisse were tabbed All-Academic Individuals, the national organization announced Monday afternoon.  

Manfra and Weisse, who were recognized in the cross country season, earned the honor for track & field season for the first time in their careers. To qualify for USTFCCCA All-Academic honors, a student-athlete must have compiled a cumulative GPA of 3.30 and must have met at least one of the following athletic standards: (1) competed in an NCAA Indoor or Outdoor Championship, (2) finished the regular season ranked in the national top-50 in an individual event or ranked in the national top-35 in a relay event on the official NCAA Descending Order List.  

Manfra and Weisse each met the qualification with appearances at the 2019 NCAA Division III Indoor Championships. At that event, Manfra became the first-ever Rams runner to garner All-America accolades in the mile, while Weisse ran the 3000. Manfra went on to compete in the mile at the outdoor championships as well, where she finished ninth. 

Academically, the pair anchored Suffolk's women's track & field team to cumulative 3.48 GPA. Manfra, maintained a perfect 4.0 GPA as a biology major this year and Weisse put together a GPA of 3.26.  

In order for a team to be in contention for the recognition it must have at least a 3.00 cumulative GPA.  

Will Feldman's Rams combined for a 3.481 GPA in 2018-19, the highest among Suffolk's varsity teams.  

Overall, 297 teams were honored by the USTFCCCA for their work inside the classroom. Breaking it down further, 184 of those were women's teams compared to 113 men's programs. Suffolk is the lone GNAC team to achieve the feat.
