Women’s Track & Field’s Manfra Made NCAA DIII Championship Field

NCAA DIII WOMEN OUTDOOR TRACK & FIELD CHAMPIONSHIP ENTRIES  | NCAA RELEASE

INDIANAPOLIS – Emily Manfra of the Suffolk women's track & field team saw her name appear in the official 2019 NCAA Division III Outdoor Track & Field Championship Field over the weekend.

For each women's individual event contested, including the heptathlon, the top 22 declared student-athletes were accepted into the competition. Manfra was one of the 22 in the 1500 m field after posting the 10th-best time amongst her DIII counterparts, clocking in with a personal-best 4:34.58 in the event at the NCAA DIII New England Regionals May 4.

Manfra is the first-ever Ram to race at an outdoor national event adding to the feat to her extensive resume that she built up over her career. This calendar year alone, she made history multiple times. In the fall, she became the first Suffolk cross country runner – either male or female – to race at the NCAA DIII Cross Country National Championships after becoming the first-ever all-region runner at New Englands. This winter, she achieved All-American status in the mile at the NCAA DIII Indoor National Championship, another first for Manfra and for Suffolk's track & field program.

The Stoneham, Massachusetts, native looks to add more accolades to her personal and the program's growing list as she ships to the SPIRE Institute in Geneva, Ohio May 23-25 to compete for outdoor national glory. The trip marks another first for Manfra as well as the program with the Biology student-athlete not only the first-ever Ram to compete on the national stage at the outdoor championships, but to complete the trifecta and compete at all three national championships – cross country, indoor and outdoor track & field – in one calendar year.
