WESTON, Mass. – Suffolk women's track & field put together its first-ever team score with a share for fifth-place at the Regis Spring Classic Friday afternoon at Regis Stadium.
The Rams' team card of 40 points put the blue-and-gold in a two-way tie for fifth in the field of 11 squads alongside Newbury. Endicott won the meet with a team total of 120.
Allison Rodrigues had a stand-out day, competing in three field events – the javelin throw, discus throw and shot put. She anchored the 19-competitor javelin field with a first-place performance of 34.81 meters. Her discus toss of 29.45 meters put the freshman in fifth out of 23 competitors, and she claimed sixth in the shot put thanks to her threw of 10.39 meters. Savannah Hunter joined Rodrigues in the shot put and discus throw. In the former, the rookie took eighth with a toss of 9.26 meter, while her 25.59 effort in the discus put the East Lyme, Connecticut local in ninth.
Julia Hunt tried her hand in multiple events as well, competing in both the long jump (8th, 4.09M) and the 100- meter hurdles. In the dash, she qualified for the finals and finished third out of 11 runners with a time of 17.69.
Suffolk saw two Rams place in the six-participant pole vault field in Megan Qualters (3rd, 2.55M) and Payton Dockus (6th, 1.95M).
Lindsey O'Dea rounded out the Rams' fielders with a fourth-place showing in the high jump thanks to her 1.47-meter performance.
Springers Mariama Kamara and Dahkensey Marcellus placed inside the top 11 in the 100-meter dash's field of 36. Kamara's second-place showing came behind a time of 12.93, while Marcellus' 13.97 performance put the junior in 11th.
Both Grace Scholz (7th, 28.83) and Qualters (18th, 30.17) ran the 200-meter dash, while Julianna Trost (8th, 1:11.99) competed in the 400-meter dash.
A quarter of Rams' runners were featured in the 1500-meter run in Olivia Chilcott (5th, 5:26.02), Natalie Fay (9th, 5:43.18), Michaela Casey (11th, 5:53.68) and Skyler Spanbauer (13th, 5:58.86).
Suffolk is back in action tomorrow, Saturday, April 6 when it competes at Fitchburg State's Jim Sheehan Memorial Invitational.
