INDIANAPOLIS – For the first time in Suffolk University history, the Rams' men's and women's indoor track & field teams will be represented at the NCAA Division III Indoor Track & Field Championships as senior Tim Barry and graduate student Amalia Dorion to the national meet in the mile, the NCAA announced Sunday night.
Suffolk has sent an individual to the meet in the past, but never a male and female in the same season. The pair will take their talents to the national stage this weekend March 14-15 at the Golisano Training Center in Rochester, New York with Nazareth and Rochester NY Sports Commission sharing host responsibilities.
For each individual event contesting, including the heptathlon, the top 20 declared student-athletes were accepted into the competition.
Barry, a native of Westborough, Massachusetts, clocked a 4:10.89, the 27th-best performance by a DIII student-athlete in the event this season, at the New England Division III Indoor Track & Field Championships. At regionals, the captain made history as the first-ever Ram to be crown a regional champion en route to an All-New England status, another first for Suffolk's program.
The long-distance runner is the second Suffolk male student-athlete to collect a bid to the national tournament since Matyas Csiki-Fejer earned a spot in the 3k in 2022.
Dorion, meanwhile, crossed the mile tape in a program-best 4:56.04 in the mile at Boston University's David Hemery Valentine Invitational Feb. 14.
The El Paso, Texas product, who brought her talents to Beacon Hill from Adams State, became the third-ever member of Suffolk's women's indoor team to earn a ticket to the national championship, first since Emily Manfra made her second trip in 2020, before the championships were cancelled due to COVID-19. Dorion will be the first Ram to compete at NCAAs since Manfra did so in 2019 when she became an All-American in the event. Emma Weisse also qualified for the meet that same season in the 3000.
Barry is the only male runner from the Conference of New England (CNE) to qualify, while Dorion will be joined by conference counterpart Rachel Brennan of Gordon in the mile.
The duo looks to add even more hardware to their respective shelves and the Rams record book this weekend. Members of Ram Nation can follow the action at NCAAs here.
