BOSTON – Suffolk women's indoor track & field had three student-athletes earn their spot at New Englands Saturday as the Rams competed at the New Balance Collegiate Showdown at the Track at New Balance.
QUALIFIERES
- JJ Conteh secured her spot at New Englands in the 60.
- Emily Concepcion punched her ticket to regionals in the 400.
- Averie Denelle secured her spot at New Englands in the high jump.
RAMS RECORDS
- Hilma Ortega (8.22), Catherine Madden (8.63) and Aida Bellal (8.72) all produced personal bests in the 60.
- Conteh (26.92), Ortega (27.88) and Bellal (29.22) rewrote career highs in the 200.
- Maria Gallant produced a personal-best in the mile (6:48.73).
- Denelle notched a career-high of 10.50 in the 60 hurdles.
- Denelle also logged a PR in the high jump along with Evelyn Lansing.
- Kara Sickle matched her pole vault personal-best as she cleared 3.15 meters.
- Divinety Johnson (11.75), Sharaden Caldwell (11.26) and Emma Withers (8.68) all registered personal bests in the weight throw.
RAMS RUNNERS
- Suffolk had four sprinters in the 60. Conteh finished on the podium with a third-place performance behind a finals time of 8.05 after finishing 7.97 in the qualifying round. Ortega was in the top-10 as well in sixth with a 8.22 showing. Madden (8.63) and Bellal (8.72) competed in the 24-runner field.
- The Rams had six student-athletes in the 200 in Amanda Walden (26.45), Conteh (26.91), Concepcion (27.45), Ortega (27.88), Kaylie Groom (28.37) and Bellal (29.22). Walden anchored the group with a fourth-place showing and Conteh claimed seventh.
- Concepcion made one lap around the track in 1:00.08 to finish third in the 400.
- Gallant finished 21st in the 800 with a 2:19.99 showing.
- The foursome of Sofia Moukadeem (5:20.79), Allison Martin (6:21.31), Gallant (6:48.73) and Katarina Ferreira ran the mile. Moukadeem anchored the quartet with a fifth-place performance.
- Madden (10.39) and Denelle (10.50) finished one after another in the 60 hurdles in 11th and 12th, respectively.
RAMS RELAYS
- The foursome of Walden, Kayle Groom, Shannon Groom and Concpecion combined for a time of 4:12.91 in the 4x400 Relay, good for third.
JUMPERS JIST
- The trio of Denelle (1.60), Catherine Brown (1.50) and Lansing (1.45) all competed in the high jump.
- In the pole vault, Devyn Battistoni (3.15) and Sickle (3.15) took sixth and eighth, respectively.
- Lansing leapt to 14th in the long jump with a 4.41-meter leap.
- Sasha Helfgott-Waters (8.99) and Ainsley Dion (8.07) were one after another in eighth and ninth in the triple jump.
THROWERS THOUGHTS
- Johnson placed 10thin the shot put with an 8.54-meter toss.
- Johnson (11.75), Caldwell (11.26), Bailee Mallett (10.31), Gracie O'Connell (10.13) and Withers (8.68) all competed in the weight throw.
YOU'RE NEW HERE
- Gallant competed in the 800 for the first time in her collegiate career.
- Moukaddem ran indoors as a Suffolk Ram for the first time.
- Martin made her indoor collegiate debut.
