BOSTON – Suffolk women's indoor track & field wrapped up first semester action at the Beacon Invitational Sunday at the Track at New Balance.
NEW ENGLAND QUALIFIERS
- Three Rams punched their tickets to New England Division III Championships at the end of February in Emily Concepcion (400), Bailey Stoddard-Baughman (60 hurdles), and Averie Denelle (high jump).
- Concepcion won the 400 as the senior made the one lap around the track in 59.86.
- Stoddard-Baughman clocked a 9.47 in the 60 hurdles to earn a spot at regionals.
- Dennelle cleared 1.60 meters in the high jump to clinch a spot at New Englands.
RAMS RUNNERS
- Concepcion's 59.86 in the 400 sent the senior to the win in the event. Alyssa Rodriguez took fifth in the 400 with a 1:03.95 and Kaylia Groom secured eighth with a 1:06.00.
- Concepcion also competed in the 200 and finished fifth with a 27.60. Hilma Ortega (27.87) and JJ Conteh(28.10) took spots in the top-10 as well in seventh and eighth, respectively. Leticia Lantero (29.94), Aida Bellal (30.25) and Amaya Williams (30.92) all ran a half lap as well.
- Suffolk had a four-runner contingent in the 60. Conteh secured second with a time of 8.16. Williams (8.67), Lantero (8.73) and Bellal (8.84) were a part of the field of 19 as well.
- Megan Dunn (5:47.61), Shannon Groom (5:51.63), Gina Cappello (6:06.49), Maria Gallant (6:51.23) and Katarina Ferreira (7:32.54) all raced the mile.
HURDLES HAVE TO KNOW
- Stoddard-Baughman anchored Suffolk's runners in the 60 hurdles with a sixth-place showing on a time of 9.47.
- Catherine Madden was two spots behind Stoddard-Baughman in eighth on a time of 9.82 and Ortega was one spot after Madden with a 9.97 performance.
- Denelle rounded out the Rams in the event in 10th with a 10.55.
RAMS RELAYERS
- Suffolk had three teams in the 4x200 field.
- The Rams 'A' squad of Conteh, Concepcion, Rodriguez and Stoddard-Baughman won the event with a 1:49.96.
- Kaylie Groom, Bellal, Ortega and Lantero joined forces for a fourth-place performance with a time of 1:55.84.
- Madden, Ainsley Dion, Williams and Denelle raced together and combined for a 2:01.48.
JUMPERS JIST
- Sasha Helfgott-Waters won the pole vault with a 2.45-meter effort.
- Dennelle placed third in the high jump behind a 1.60-meter showing. Caterine Brown's 1.45 meters was good for fifth and Evelyn Lansing secured sixth with a 1.45 meters performance.
- Stoddard-Baughman claimed third in the triple jump with a 10.42-meter effort. Helfgott-Waters finished fifth (9.08m) and Dion took eighth (8.51m).
THROWERS THOUGHTS
- Divinety Johnson took fifth in the shot put's 13-thrower field with a 9.65-meter heave.
- Bailee Mallet secured in the weight throw with a 11.31-meter toss. Gracie O'Connell was two spots behind her with 11.08-meter showing and Johnson finished one spot behind O'Connell with a 10.73-meter effort. Emma Withers (8.36m), Lydia Comprosky (8.29m) and Olivia Nicholson (6.45m) also competed in the weight throw.
RAMS RECORDS
- Stoddard-Baughman raced to a Rams' record in the 60 hurdles (9.47) and triple jump (10.42m).
- Denelle cleared a Suffolk-best 1.60m in the high jump.
- Gallant logged a PR in the mile with a time of 6:51.23.
- Madden notched a career-high 9.82 in the 60 hurdles.
- Mallett (11.31m) and Nicholson (6.45m) logged PRs in the weight throw.
YOU'RE NEW HERE
- Williams (60, 200), Bellal (60, 200), Dunn (mile), Cappello (mile), Ferreira (mile), Stoddard-Baughman (60 hurdles, triple jump) and Denelle (60 hurdles, high jump) all made their collegiate debuts.
- Shannon Groom ran the mile for the first time in her collegiate career.
- Johnson and Withers competed in the weight throw for the first time.
- Mallett made her Suffolk debut in the weight throw.
WHAT'S NEXT?
Suffolk is idle until after the New Year when it hosts and competes in the Suffolk Ice Breaker Invitational at the Track.
