Women’s Indoor Track & Field Sweeps GNAC Honors, Weisse Athlete, Lawton Rookie

WINTHROP, Mass. – For the first time in program history, Suffolk women's indoor track & field swept both GNAC women's indoor track & field honors as Emma Weisse was named athlete of the week and Sarah Lawton earned rookie of the week due to their performances at Northeastern's Joe Donahue Games Saturday night, the conference office announced Monday.

In just the second weeks of existence, 75 percent of the GNAC's women's indoor track & field weekly honors have hailed from Suffolk. Weisse's first athlete of the week is the second in program history behind her co-captain, Emily Manfra's, inaugural recognition last week, while Lawton is the first-ever Rams rookie to be recognized as the best first-year over a seven-day stretch in program history.

Weisse's standout showing came in her first competition in her senior season. After sitting out the entire cross country season, the Hampden, Massachusetts, local headlined the eight-runner 1000 at the Reggie Lewis Center. She topped the field that feature two of her teammates and five student-athletes from Sacred Heart with a time of 3:11.59, 1.61 faster than runner-up Natalie DuBois of Sacred Heart.

Lawton put together a personal-best in the 500. She finished the two and a half laps in 1:23.99 to finish in the middle of the 16-competitor field in 10th. That time also marks the top mark of a GNAC runner in the event this season.

Suffolk takes the next month off and is back in action Saturday, Jan. 18 at the Tufts Invitational
