Five to Lead Women’s Indoor Track & Field in 2019-20

BOSTON – Suffolk women's indoor track & field head coach Will Feldman announced that a handful of Rams will hold captain titles for the 2019-20 campaign in seniors Mariama Kamara, Emily Manfra and Emma Weisse, and sophomores Savannah Hunter and Allison Rodrigues.

"The women's team is led by a group of women with a ton of experience competing at a high level," Feldman said.

"Emma (Weisse) and Emily (Manfra) bring a wealth of experience and a silent confidence that rubs off on the rest of the team," said Feldman.

The seniors have been a dynamic duo over the course of the formation of Suffolk's track & field programs. A year ago, they each put the Rams on the map competing at the national championships. There, Manfra made history with All-America status.

Hunter and Rodrigues each command the Rams in the throwing events and look to build off successful freshman campaigns, while Kamara has been a staple sprinter over the course of her career.

"Savannah (Hunter) and Mariama (Kamara) are true gamers," Feldman said. "They bring an intense focus and demand the best of those around them."

Feldman continued, "Allison (Rodrigues) is one of the best throwers in New England and possibly the most talented athlete on the team. She keeps the team loose, and brings the positivity."

The five Rams will lead the Suffolk contingent into its first-ever championship season with the inaugural GNAC Indoor Track & Field Championships set for Sunday, Feb. 16 at Boston University.

This weekend, Suffolk's season gets underway at two events: the Emmanuel Invitational at the Reggie Lewis Track & Field Center and Boston University's Sharon Colyear-Danville Season Opener.
