PROVIDENCE, R.I. – To wrap up first semester action, the Suffolk men's and women's indoor track & field teams competed at the RIC Invitational at the Providence Career & Technical Academy Saturday, Dec. 8.
On the women's side 11 different Rams donned the blue-and-gold at the event.
Julia Hunt represented the Rams in the 60 M dash and hurdles. In the dash the freshman finished 15th behind a time of 9.00. In the hurdles, Hunt qualified for the finals with a time of 10.88 and completed the finals in 10.71 for eighth overall.
Olivia Chilcott took the field in the 600 M Dash and completed the course in 1:55.01, good for fourth.
Natalie Fay and Meagan Dyer finished one in front of the other in the 1000 M Dash. Fay crossed the tape in 3:46.60, while Dyer was just 20 seconds behind her.
Skyler Spanbauer rounded out the individuals in the track events in the 3000 M Dash with a time of 12:00.65.
Hunt, Dakhensey Marcellus, Mariama Kamara and Megan Qualters comprised Suffolk's first-ever women's relay team in the 4x200. The quartet Rams combined for a time of 2:03.70 to place fourth.
In the fielding events, Qualters and Bridgett Keavey placed second and third in the pole vault behind throws of 2.45 M and 2.05 M, respectively. Allison Rodrigues (10.96 M) and Savannah Hunter (9.49 M) competed in the shot put.
Matyas Csiki-Fejer anchored Suffolk's men's team. The freshman set a new meet record in the 3000 M with a time of 8:52.13, which punched the rookie's ticket to the NCAA DIII New England Championships. Jonah Flores and Nick Malm also ran the 3000 M and finished sixth and eighth, respectively with times of 9:51.53 and 9:58.95.
Justin Patten ran the short distance for Suffolk in both the 60 M Dash and the 60 M hurdles, while Nicholas Nunez played his chances in the middle distance of the 200 M dash and 400 M dash. Ryan Holloway and Robert Solari joined Nunez in the 400 M dash. Holloway hand a standout performance, finishing fourth with a time of 53.13.
Arthur Lacerda also had a standout day with sixth-place showing in the 600 M dash.
In the mile, Roth Santos and Hunter Toyoda finished fourth and 10th, respectively.
Six different student-athletes tried their hands in the field events. Solari competed in the high jump. Matthew Sambuceti and Michael Power participated in the shot put and the weight throw. George Yeghyayan and Michael Balestra competed in the shot put and weight throw, respectively.
Suffolk returns to action following the New Year when it competes at the GBTC Invitational at Harvard University.
