Women’s Indoor Track Opens Season at UMass Boston Winter Open

ROXBURY, Mass. – The Suffolk women's indoor track & field team lifted the lid on its 2018-19 calendar at the 2018 UMass Boston Winter Open Saturday, Dec. 1. 

The Rams were represented in seven different events by 13 student-athletes. 

Mariama Kamara, Dakhensey Marcellus and Julia Hunt each donned blue-and-gold in the 60 meter dash. Kamara, a junior from Chelsea, Massachusetts, anchored the trio in the event with a time of 8.17 to take seventh overall in the field of 82 competitors. Marcellus, put together a time of 8.56, which was good for 25th, while Hunt crossed the tape in 8.89 to place 49th in her track & field debut. 

Hunt also competed in the 200 meter dash, where she finished the course in 30.45 to place 74th, and the 60 M hurdles, where she finished 26th thanks to her time of 10.87. 

Suffolk had the most athletes in the mile with Olivia Chilcott, Meagan Dyer, Natalie Fay, Skyler Spanbauer and Mai Linh Vankirk all participating. Chilcott anchored the Rams' contingent as the freshman finished 24th in the field of 49 with a time of 6:03.89. Spanbeaur was five spots behind her classmate crossing the line in 6:10.39. Dyer clocked in at 6:12.68 for 32nd with Vankirk (6:21.62) and Fay (6:21.79) completing the course 17 seconds after one another to claim 36th and 37th, respectively. 

Julianna Trost made her collegiate debut in the 500 meter run with the freshman putting together a time of 1:34.01 to take 17th. 

Megan Qualters completed the Rams in the races in the 200 meter dash. The freshman from Chester, New Hampshire also tried her hand in the pole vault along with classmate Bridgett Keavey. 

Allison Rodrgiues and Savannah Hunter each tossed the shot put. Rodrigues throw went 11.06 meters good for seventh out of the 59. Hunter, meanwhile, recorded a throw of 9.06 meters to take 31st. 

The Rams return to action and wrap up first semester competition next weekend at the Rhode Island College Invitational.
