Indoor Track & Field Begins at UMass Boston Indoor Open

ROXBURY, Mass. – Saturday, Dec. 2 was a historic day for Suffolk athletics as the Rams' indoor track & field team competed for the first time as a varsity team with the blue-and-gold participating in the sixth annual UMass Boston Indoor Open at the Reggie Lewis Center. 

A dozen Rams patriated in the Suffolk's first-ever track & field event as Track & Field/Cross Country Head Coach Will Feldman used the experienced long distance runners to anchor Suffolk's performance Saturday. 

Emily Manfra had the highest showing in any event with the sophomore from Stoneham, Massachusetts, placing fifth overall in the 1000M run thanks to her time of 3:20.21, which was the fastest in her heat. Manfra took the course with teammate Withny Mycourt, who raced in her first collegiate event, finishing in 4:28.21 (17th). 

Marima Kamara and Dakhensey Marcellus each competed in their first events as well. Kamara represented the Rams in the 60 M dash, while Marcellus raced in the 200 M dash. 

In the women's mile, Emma Weisse's time of 5:37.90 was good for first in the sophomore's session and ninth in the field of 33. Michelle Kearney (30th) and Natalie Fay (31st) also ran in the race, crossing the tape in 6:47.96 and 6:50.34, respectively. 

On the men's side, Eddie Lui ran both the mile and 400 M dash with Nicholas Nunez joining the graduate student in the 400 M dash.  Suffolk blue-and-gold was also in the 60 M dash as Christopher Horton raced for Suffolk. 

Mary Lucy Dubleavy and Matt Sambuceti made Suffolk history as the first Rams to participate in field events. Sambucit put together a 9.04 m throw in the shot put with Dunleavy competing in both the weight throw (6.80 M) and the shot put (8.14 M).

Suffolk is back at the Reggie Lewis Center this Saturday, Dec. 9 for the 2017 Jay Carisella Track & Field Invitational.
