Prescott CCC Scholar-Athlete, Urbano CCC Singles Third-Team

CCC RELEASE

BIDDEFORD, Maine – For the second time in as many seasons, Suffolk women's tennis saw a pair of players garner all-conference accolades from the Commonwealth Coast Conference (CCC) Tuesday. Senior Bianca Prescott took home CCC Scholar-Athlete, while Caren Urbano was named to the All-CCC Singles Third-team.

A Ram has received CCC Scholar-Athlete distinction, which is given to a student-athlete who is either graduating or has exhausted her eligibility and has excelled both on the court and in the classroom, every season since Suffolk joined the league in competition officially in 2021. Prescott follows in Ilda Ascic's footsteps as the second-ever women's tennis player to take home the feat. Ascic was the first-ever student-athlete in blue-and-gold to be dubbed the distinction in the University's history when she grabbed the honor a year ago.

Prescott, a captain from East Granby, Connecticut, has competed in Suffolk's lineup in both singles and doubles play since joining the Rams roster as a freshman in 2019. Not only has she contributed athletically, but has compiled a prestigious academic resume as well. As an undergraduate law major, she has built a near perfect 3.914 cumulative GPA. Over the course of her four-year career, Prescott has been recognized for her academic accomplishments on numerous occasions, including three ITA Scholar-Athlete awards and a pair of CCC Fall All-Conference Team selections.

Urbano burst out onto the scene as a junior this fall. She held down the Rams top spot in singles action where she went 3-7 overall and 1-5 versus conference counterparts en route to a spot on the conference's third team. The Orlando, Florida, native is the second Suffolk player to receive an all-league singles nod from the CCC as Sarah Mezini grabbed a first-team spot in 2021.

Under the leadership of first-year head coach Drew Goldstein Suffolk was recognized on the sportsmanship front as well as the Rams earned the league's Sportsmanship Award. It is not only the first honor for the women's tennis squad in the CCC era, but the first time any Suffolk team received the accolade from the CCC.

Since joining the CCC in 2020, Suffolk has garnered four all-conference awards, a pair of CCC Scholar-Athletes in Ascic and Prescott, and a duo of singles all-conference players – Mezini (first-team) and Urbano (second-team). When combined with their previous achievements, the Rams have now earned 54 all-league honors – two school-athlete, six player of the year, three rookie of the year, 16 first-team singles, eight second-team singles, one third-team singles and eight second-team doubles, dating back to 2007.
