BIDDEFORD, Maine – Caren Urbano of the Suffolk women's tennis team picked up Commonwealth Coast Conference (CCC) Rookie of the Week honors for her effort in the Rams' opening week.
Urbano, a junior from Orlando, Florida, made her collegiate debut this week playing the top spot for the Rams in both singles and doubles play. Overall she went 2-2 with both of her wins coming against Simmons in the 2022 season opener Wednesday, Sept. 7. In doubles play, she and her partner, name, edged out the Sharks' top pair winning 8-7 (6-0). She then needed three sets (6-4, 7-6, 10-7) to win in singles. Both of her losses came to the top pair and singles play from Bridgewater State the following day.
Urbano is the first Suffolk student-athlete to garner weekly recognition from the CCC in the University's history. She is also the first Ram to grab any weekly honor since Delaney Dunlap received GNAC Player of the Week Oct. 15, 2018. Urbano is the first player in blue-and-gold to be tabbed the best rookie over a seven-day stretch by a league since Valentina Medina earned her fifth such honor by the GNAC Oct. 12, 2015.
Suffolk and Urbano are scheduled to be back in action tomorrow, Tuesday, Sept. 13 at Rhode Island College at 4 p.m.
