Women’s Tennis Slips to Simmons in Regular Season Finale

BOSTON – Trailing 2-1 after a postponed match due to inclement weather, Suffolk women's tennis looked to comeback versus Simmons, but the Sharks had other things in mind. The visitors won four of the six singles courts to take down the Rams, 6-3, in their regular season final Sunday afternoon at Daly Field.

HOW IT HAPPENED
The Rams fell behind 2-1 on Saturday at North Reading High School with doubles action finishing in order and the Sharks winning on the first and second courts, respectively. Singles action was delayed due to a rain storm and picked up again Sunday afternoon in Boston at Daly Field.

Simmons picked up wins on courts six, five and three, in that order, to secure the win. Meagan French fell to Celia Speth, 6-1, 6-2 in the fifth position before Paola Rios downed Jacquelyn Nakamura, 6-1, 6-2, in the sixth slot. Marissa Johnson bested Keely Hardy 6-2, 6-3 at No. 3 to lock up the win for the Sharks.

Ahilya Malhourta and Delaney Dunlap picked up singles victories for Suffolk. The freshman downing Michelle Medici, 6-7 (4-7), 6-2 and 11-9 in the fourth spot and Dunlap besting Jessica Schroedl, 7-5, 7-5, in the top position.

Elena Cisneros Garcia fell to Nickie Nguyen, 7-5, 6-4, for the final 6-3 margin.

COMING UP
With the setback Suffolk took the fourth seed in the upcoming GNAC Tournament. The Rams will entertain fifth seeded Saint Joseph (Conn). In the first road Wednesday, Oct. 18 at 4:30 p.m. at North Reading High School. Simmons, meanwhile, finished third in the league and will face sixth-seeded Albertus Magnus also on Wednesday.
