Women’s Tennis Cruises Past St. Joseph (Conn.), Extends Streak to Five

WEST HAVEN, Conn. – The Suffolk women's tennis team downed the University of Saint Joseph, 7-2, at the USJ Tennis Courts Saturday afternoon to push its win streak to five straight.

HOW IT HAPPENED
After taking a 2-1 lead out of doubles play, Suffolk rattled off five consecutive singles win to seal the 7-2 conference triumph.

Meagan French and Jacquelyn Nakamura started the match with a convincing 8-1 win over Emily McAllister and Alivia Castle in the third position. Elena Cisneros Garcia and Danyln Medou fell to Lucy Roberg and Leah Nguyen, 8-6, on the first court, before Delaney Dunlap and Keely Hardy bested Ashley Savino and Dominique Carnot, 8-4, in the second spot.

In singles, Nakamura stated the action with a golden match in the sixth slot versus Castuve. Hardy took down Savin, 6-1, 6-0, on court three and Dunlap secured the victory with a 6-4, 6-0, decision on the top court over Roberge.

With the match already notched for the Rams, Medou registered a 6-1, 6-0 win on court four over Carnot and Cisneros Garcia put together a together a 6-1, 6-4, win over Nguyen in the second position. 

The Blue Jays earned their second point of the match as McAllister defeated French, 2-6, 6-2, 6-4, at No. 5

  • Suffolk remains unbeaten versus St. Joseph (Conn.) dating back to 2007.
  • The Rams have defeated the Blue Jays by 7-2 decisions in the last four meetings.
  • Suffolk extended its win streak to five, marking a season-best, and the most consecutive victories since stringing five together to open October (1-10) last season.
