BOSTON – Interim head coach Matthew Tiberii has called upon seniors Jacquelyn Nakamura and Isabel Rathlev to help lead the Suffolk women's tennis team in 2017 as captains.
Nakamura and Rathlev look to pace Suffolk to its 11th consecutive GNAC postseason tournament and raise the title banner for the second time in program history.
Rathlev was a constant presence in the singles lineup in together, but her true contribution came in doubles play as she was one of the ingredients to Suffolk's unbeaten duo with Valentina Medina. The pair held down the Rams' top tandem spot and cruised past its competition for a 9-0 record en route to All-GNAC doubles second team honors.
Rathlev also partnered with her now co-captain Nakamura in doubles play in 2016. The team also was undefeated, 2-0. Nakamura also played a key role in singles action, producing a 6-5 mark on the lower end of the ladder.
Suffolk is set for its season opener Tuesday, Sept. 5 when it visits Rhode Island College for a 4 p.m. match.
