Sagyndykova Tabbed GNAC Corvias Player of the Week

BOSTON – In the Suffolk women's tennis final regular-season week, which featured three games, Aidiana Sagyndykova put together an unbeaten singles and doubles record en route to GNAC Corvias Player of the Week honors, the league office announced Monday afternoon. 

Sagyndykova went 3-0 in singles and doubles on the first and seconds courts to finish the season 14-1 in singles play and 13-4 in doubles play this season. In dual action, she is unbeaten in singles, 14-0, and 12-3 on the doubles court. 

The Almaty, Kazakstahn, native opened the week with her senior night against Saint Joseph (Conn.). She teamed up with her fellow graduating Ram, Valentina Medina, for an 8-1 triumph as Suffolk's top tandem, defeating Rebecca Mauri and Lucy Roberge.  She followed that up with a 6-4, 6-0, singles victory over Mauri as the Rams' ace. 

At UMass Dartmouth two days later, Sagyndykova partnered with Elena Cisneros Garcia in the single doubles slot. The senior-sophomore team took down Mollie McCaffrey and Jamie Fastino, 8-4. In singles play, she defeatd McCaffrey, 6-1, 6-0, on the seconds court. 

The regular season closed out for Sagyndykova and Suffolk at Mount Ida Saturday, where she and Cisneros Garcia locked up an 8-4 doubles triumph versus Jenna Jarman and Rebecca Levy in the Rams' first position. Sagyndykova sealed her perfect conference singles ledger with a 6-0, 6-2 decision over Jarman in Suffolk's No. 1 slot. 

The honor is the first for Sagyndykova of the season and fifth for Suffolk this season with Medina grabbing four nods.   

Sagyndykova and Suffolk will via for the GNAC crown as the tournament's third seed. The Rams will host sixth-seeded Mt. Ida in a rematch Wednesday, Oct. 19 with the winner advancing to the semifinals Saturday, Oct. 22.
