Women’s Tennis Seeded Third in Upcoming GNAC Championship

BOSTON – Suffolk earned the third seed in the upcoming GNAC Championship tournament, the league office announced this week.

With the regular season wrapped up, the Rams' 5-1 league ledger identically matched Johnson & Wales and Simmons with all three teams going 1-1 against each other. The Wildcats earned the top spot thanks to the tiebreaker, while Simmons took second by virtue of its 5-4 head-to-head win over Suffolk earlier this season. 

With JWU and Simmons each earning byes, Suffolk will host the sixth-seeded Mount Ida in the quarterfinals Wednesday, Oct. 19 at 6 p.m. at Buckingham, Browne & Nichols. The victor will advanced to the semifinals matchup against Simmons Saturday at 4:30 p.m. at the Winchester Tennis Center. 

Fifth-seeded Albertus Magnus will travel to fourth-seeded Saint Joseph (Conn.) Wednesday in the other quarterfinals match with the winner taking on top seed JWU Saturday at 2 p.m. 

The championship contest is slated for a 12:30 p.m. first serve Sunday, Oct. 23.

Match 1: #6 Mount Ida at #3 Suffolk – 6:00 p.m. at Buckingham, Browne & Nichols
Match 2: #5 Albertus Magnus at #4 Saint Joseph (Conn.) – 3 p.m.

Saturday, Oct. 22 – Semifinals – Winchester Tennis Center
Match 3: Match 2 winner vs. #1 Johnson & Wales – 2 p.m.
Match 4: Match 1 winner vs. #2 Simmons – 4:30 p.m.

Sunday, Oct. 23 – Finals – Winchester Tennis Center
Match 5: Match 3 winner vs. Match 4 winner – 12:30 p.m.
