Women’s Tennis Sweeps Mount Ida in Season Finale

NEWTON, Mass. – The Suffolk women's tennis team capped off its 2016 regular season in sweeping fashion Saturday afternoon as the Rams blanked Mount Ida, 9-0, at Buckingham, Browne & Nichols. 

THE BASICS

HOW IT HAPPENED
 Suffolk used straight sets in both doubles and singles action and across all courts to easily handle the Mustangs. 

SUFFOLK STANDOUTS

  • Juniors Isabel Rathlev and Jacquleyn Nakamura put Suffolk on the scoreboard with an 8-1 victory over Amanda Garner and Danielle Barnabe in the third position. 
  • Senior Aidiana Sagyndykova and sophomore Elena Cisneros Garcia took over the first spot for the Rams and with 8-4 decision against Jenna Jarman and Rebecca Levy. 
  • Graduate student Eugenia Skorobogatov and rookie Christina Texidor rounded out doubles play with a golden match against Katlyn Jesse and Yuilana Chairez in the second spot. 
  • Nakamuara continued her winning ways in singles action with an impressive golden match in the sixth slot against Hannah Bassett. 
  • Texidor clinched the match with a 6-0, 6-1, triumph against Chairez, at No. 5. 
  • At the top court, Sagyndyova bested Jarman, 6-0, 6-2. 
  • Skorobogatov followed with a 6-1, 6-0, decision over Levy in the second spot. 
  • Cisneros Garcia locked up a 6-1, 6-3 victory on the third court against Jesse. 
  • Freshman Danlyn Medou rounded out the competition with a golden match of her own on court four, downing Garner. 

NOTEWORTHY

  • Suffolk notched three sweeps for the second straight season.  

COMING UP
With a 5-1 GNAC record, Suffolk sits in a three-way tie for first-place in the conference standings. The Rams will await the head-to-head results for their conference tournament seeding.
