DARTMOUTH, Mass. – The Suffolk women's tennis team suffered its first defeat in October as the Corsairs of UMass Dartmouth defeated the Rams, 5-4, at the UMD Tennis Center Thursday afternoon. 

THE BASICS

HOW IT HAPPENED
Suffolk won the first and second doubles courts to take a 2-1 lead into singles action. The Rams lead grew to 4-1 thanks to wins on courts one and two, but UMass Dartmouth swept the remaining slots to take the 5-4 non-conference victory. 

SUFFOLK STANDOUTS

• Valentina Medina and Isabel Rathlev got the Rams on the scoreboard with an 8-4 decision over Jenna Lahaie and Jillian Reichert in the first doubles position. 
• Aidiana Sagyndykova and Elena Cisneros Garcia downed Mollie McCaffrey and Jaime Fastino by an 8-4 score in the single slot to capture the second point of the day. 
• Medina was the first player in blue and gold to finish a singles match as the Rams' ace notched a golden match (6-0, 6-0) over Lahaie to remain unbeaten in singles dual action. 
• Sagyndykova also grabbed a singles victory. The senior took down McCaffrey, 6-0, 6-1, in the second spot to round out Suffolk's scoring matches. 

NOTEABLES

• Six of Suffolk's setbacks this season came by a 5-4 score. 
• Medina and Sagyndykova continue their undefeated single dual ledgers.

Suffolk wraps up the 2016 regular season Saturday, Oct. 15 at Mount Ida. First serve in the conference contest is scheduled for 12 p.m.
