Medina Grabs Fourth GNAC Corvias Player of the Week Nod

BOSTON –Valentina Medina of the Suffolk women's tennis team grabbed her fourth GNAC Corvias Player of the Week nod of 2016 on the eve of the final week of the regular season, the league office announced Monday afternoon.

Medina once again went undefeated in both singles and doubles play to help propel Suffolk to an unbeaten week and surprise win over Johnson & Wales.

In the week's opener at Anna Maria, she partnered with Isabel Rathlev to put Suffolk on the scoreboard with an 8-2 top tandem win. Medina followed that with the first singles victory of the day, a 6-2, 6-1, triumph on the first court.

Against Johnson & Wales on Saturday, Medina helped Suffolk surprise the Wildcats, handing them their first loss of 2016 with wins on the first singles and doubles court. With Rathlev once again started the scoring for the Rams with an 8-2 win on court one to move to 7-0 on the season. The San Andres, Colombia, native set up match point with a 6-4, 6-0, victory, as Suffolk's ace.

Medina, who enjoys her playing career at Suffolk this afternoon on Senior Day against St. Joseph (Conn.) has a lot to celebrate. Throughout her two-year career she has shined as one of the most successful Rams in Suffolk history. Overall, she is 27-1 in singles in the first and second position with her lone loss coming in tournament play. In doubles matches, she is 26-3 overall.

After today's match, Medina and Suffolk will wrap up the non-conference scheduled at UMass Dartmouth Thursday, Oct. 13, before closing the regular season at Mount Ida Saturday, Oct. 15.
