Medina Does it Again, Earns Sixth Rookie of the Week Honor

BOSTON – Valentina Medina of the Suffolk women's tennis team has been named the GNAC Corvias Rookie of the Week following the Rams' 3-0 regular-season ending week.

Medina has now earned six rookie of the week honors and five straight from the conference office, the most in GNAC record books that date back to the 2010 season. Medina already made Suffolk history with the most in the program with her second nod.

The San Andres, Colombia native finished the week a perfect 6-0 to conclude the season 14-0 in singles play and 13-1 in doubles action.

On Monday, she teamed with Aidiana Sagyndykova as Suffolk's top tandem. The sophomore and senior partnership swept Albertus Magnus' Zaida Velazco and Alicia Weaver for their fourth victory in doubles play Together. In singles, she posted her fifth golden match of 2015 against Weaver in the second slot.

In the Rams home finale, Medina took on the role as Suffolk's ace in singles and did not disappoint as she recorded her sixth golden match of the year with a cleansheet over Emerson's Tiziana Vazquez. In doubles play, Medina took the court with Rebecca Eshoo for the first time this season and the two did not miss a beat as they blanked Vazquez and Jamie CoConis at No. 1.

Medina and the Rams concluded the regular season at Mount Ida Sunday. With Eshoo in doubles the pair defeated the Mustangs Rebecca Levy and Mackenzie Bumpus before she sealed her undefeated regular-season singles slate with a 6-0, 6-1 triumph over Levy.

As the GNAC tournament's second-seed, Medina and Suffolk drew a bye in the quarterfinals and will take on the winner of sixth-seeded Mount Ida and third-seeded Johnson & Wales Saturday, Oct. 24 at 4:30 p.m. at the Winchester Tennis Courts.
