Medina Picks Up Fourth GNAC Corvias Rookie of the Week Award

BOSTON – Valentina Medina of the Suffolk women's tennis team has been named GNAC Corvias Rookie of the Week for the third straight week and fourth overall, conference officials announced Monday afternoon.

Medina, who began her career with the year's first rookie of the week honor, has been named the GNAC's top newcomer four times. The first player in blue-and-gold to be tabbed rookie of the week since Adrianna Garrett '15 did so October 11, 2011, one-upped her accomplishment with her second nod September 21 as she became the first Suffolk player to be named the best rookie over a seven day stretch twice in program history.

The San Andrés, Colombia native kept her singles undefeated record in tact in a one-match week for the Rams despite the team's 7-2 loss at Springfield. After suffering her first doubles loss of the season with Abby Trigilio to Melissa Parrish and Rachel Litchfield, 8-5, in the second slot, Medina had her mind right for singles play. Up against Stephanie Foster, Medina followed a golden first set with a 6-1 second to seal her ninth singles victory of 2015.

Now with just two weeks remaining in the regular season Medina and Suffolk sets its sights on GNAC opponent Anna Maria who visits Buckingham, Browne & Nichols Tuesday, Oct. 6 at 6 p.m.
