Medina Named GNAC Corvias Rookie of the Week, Again

BOSTON – Suffolk women's tennis's Valentina Medina has been named GNAC Corvias Rookie of the Week, marking the third time this season she has earned the award and second time in as many weeks.

Medina played to her fourth undefeated week post 2-0 records in singles and doubles action exclusively in the second slot to keep her collegiate records perfect. The sophomore now sits 8-0 in singles play and has teamed up with Aidiana Sagyndykova (3-0) and Abby Trigilio (5-0) for an unblemished an 8-0 doubles ledger.

The San Andres, Colombia native first took to the court on Thursday against Wentworth and helped guide Suffolk to a 7-2 victory. Medina started things off with Trigilio as the tandem took down Nicole McColgan and Ellen Butts, 8-2. Medina met McColgan in singles and easily took down the Leopard, 6-1, 6-1.

On Sunday against the defending GNAC champs Simmons, Medina continued to strive. She started the day off with a 9-7 victory over Rachael Downey and Katie Crowley with her partner Trigilio before heading into her toughest singles set this season. In a three-set battled, her first of her career, Medina battled against Meg Cokely. After dropping the first set, 7-6, Medina rallied in the second 6-3 and prevailed in a tie breaker, 10-6, to keep her perfect record intact.

With September's competition in the books for Suffolk, Medina and the Rams return to competition Thursday, Oct. 1 at Springfield.
