Women’s Tennis Serves Past St. Joseph (CT) in GNAC Opener

WEST HARTFORD, Conn. – In its GNAC opener, the Suffolk women's tennis team put on a show as the Rams severed past the University of St. Joseph's, 7-2, at the University of St. Joseph Athletic Complex. 

For the second time this season Suffolk put together back-to-back victories, improving its record to 4-2 overall and 1-0 against GNAC competition. The Blue Jays dropped their third match in a row to slip to 2-3 overall and 0-1 in the conference. 

The Rams came out swinging, taking all three doubles points. Aidiana Sagyndykova and Rebecca Eshoo put Suffolk on the board first with an 8-4 triumph over Becca Maun and Lucy Roberge on the top court. Valentina Medina and Abby Trigilio followed suit in the second slot with an 8-1 decision against Sakinah Abdusalem and Ashley Savino. Lyndsay Reese and Isabel Rathlev rounded out the Rams tandems on the third court with an 8-4 win over Leah Ngyen and Natalie Rozio. 

Keeping the momentum alive in the singles matches, the Rams won the first two singles matches to seal the victory. Sagyndykova finished first at No. 1 as the junior took down Mauan, 6-0, 6-1. Medina followed suit as the sophomore posted her second golden match in as many matches in the second spot against Roberge to keep her perfect singles record in tact. 

With the match already in the books for Suffolk, Megan French fell to Tara Smith, 6-3, 6-2, at No. 5 to bring the score to 5-1. 

Trigilio marked another tally in the win column when the senior defeated Savino, 6-2, 7-5, on court four. 

At No. 3 singles, Eshoo fell to Abdusalem, 6-3, 6-2, before Elena Cisneros picked up her first collegiate singles victory in the form of a 6-2, 1-6, 10-8, win against Seren Sundara in the sixth slot.

Suffolk steps out of GNAC play Thursday when it travels meets Wentworth at Harvard University for a 3:30 p.m. match.
