Aidiana Sagyndykova Named GNAC Player of the Year

The Suffolk University Women's Tennis team took home multiple awards by the Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) for the 2014 season.

Sophomore Aidiana Sagyndykova (Almaty, Kazakhstan) was named Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) Player of the Year for Women's Tennis.

Sagyndykova finished a stellar 2014 campaign that saw her win 13 consecutive singles matches to tie the Suffolk single season modern day record for victories in a season. Playing in the number one position in individual play, Sagyndykova put together a 13-1 record during this year's season. She was also named a first team All-Conference selection as well as being named to the conference's All-Tournament team for her playoff effort.

Combined on the season, Sagyndykova accounted for 24 victories between singles and doubles play. She posted an 11-3 record with doubles partner senior Adrianna Garrett (Plymouth, Mass.) The duo was Suffolk's top tandem on the season.

During her winning streak Sagyndykova won 26 consecutive sets as she also won both her singles matches in the GNAC Tournament. She was a perfect 6-0 in GNAC play.

She ties Lauren Cameron for the most individual wins by a player over the past 10 seasons. Cameron did so in 2008 when she was named the Conference Rookie of the Year. Sagyndykova joins Kaitlynn Cates as the last Suffolk player to win the conference's top honor as Player of the Year on the women's side.

Suffolk finished the 2014 season with an 8-7 overall record. They were the number three seed in this year's GNAC Tournament with a 4-2 mark as they advanced to the conference semifinals before a 5-2 setback to Johnson & Wales ended their season.
