Trio of Female Fall Sport Athletes Earn GNAC Weekly Honors

A trio of female fall sport student-athletes earned recognition by the Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) on Monday October 13th.

For the second consecutive week freshman Jessica Harmon (Huntington Beach, Calif.) was named Rookie of the Week by the GNAC for Women's Soccer. Harmon led Suffolk to a 2-1 victory over Johnson & Wales University on Wednesday afternoon as she scored a pair of goals. Just thirty four seconds into Wednesday's contest, Harmon scored her first of two goals in the game. She would score the eventual game winner in the second half as she converted on a penalty kick. The two goal game was Harmon's third straight contest in which she scored multiple goals in a contest. She was named GNAC Rookie of the Week last week while also earning top first year honors by the Eastern College Athletic Conference (ECAC) for Division-III New England. In 12 games this season Harmon currently leads Suffolk with seven goals and 16 points. She is currently tied for sixth in the conference in goals scored and ranks eighth among scorers.

Senior Melissa Brouillette (Shelton, Conn.) was named Goalie of the Week for Women's Soccer by the conference. Brouillette had a big week in goal for the Rams making a total of 22 saves in a pair of victories. In Wednesday's 2-1 victory over Johnson & Wales, Brouillette made 12 saves as Suffolk was outshot by a 31-10 margin in the game. Brouillette posted her 18th career shutout on Saturday and second of the 2014 season when she stopped all 10 shots she faced in Suffolk's 1-0 victory over Rivier University. In 11 games in goal, Brouillette is currently third among GNAC netminders with 109 total saves on the season.

Women's Soccer is currently 4-5-3 on the season with a 3-1-3 mark in GNAC play. They'll take a five game unbeaten streak into Lasell College on Tuesday afternoon as they face the Lasers in a rematch of last year's conference championship beginning at 4:00pm.

Sophomore Aidiana Sagyndykova (Almaty, Kazakhstan) was named to the GNAC Weekly Honor Roll for Women's Tennis. On Monday evening, Sagyndykova earned her 10th victory of the season in singles play as Suffolk's top individual player. Last week she won both of her contests in the singles play in the number one position, while also collecting a pair of wins in doubles action as well. She was named GNAC Player of the Week the past two weeks as she has been victorious in 10 straight matches in singles play.

Women's Tennis is currently 6-6 on the season and 4-2 in GNAC play. They'll conclude their regular season on Wednesday evening when they host Emerson College in non-conference action before starting the GNAC Tournament on Wednesday October 22nd.
