Springfield Snaps Women's Tennis Win Strike

The Springfield College Pride (5-4 overall) snapped Suffolk University's four game winning streak in non-conference Women's Tennis action with a 6-3 victory on Thursday evening.

The Pride used five wins in six singles matches to improve to a 5-4 overall record, while Suffolk falls to 4-5 on the season.

Sophomore Aidiana Sagyndykova (Almaty, Kazakhstan) was a multiple winner on the evening for Suffolk. Sagyndykova partnered with junior Adrianna Garrett (Plymouth, Mass.) for an 8-6 victory in the top doubles games. Sagyndykova would also won her singles game in the number one individual contest as she was a winner in back to back sets by scores of 6-2, 6-1.

Junior Rebecca Eshoo (Farmington, Conn.) and junior Abby Trigilio (Ipswich, Mass.) collected Suffolk's other win on the evening as they teamed for a 9-8 win in the second doubles game.

For the Pride, freshman Rachel Litchfield (Northbridge, Mass.) and sophomore Kelsey Whelpley (Mastic Beach, N.Y.) both posted multiple wins on the night. The duo combined for an 8-1 victory in the third doubles game.

Litchfield took the number three singles game by scores of 6-3, 6-1. Whelpley was a 6-4, 6-0 victor in the number five singles game.

Sophomore Stephanie Foster (Woodbridge, Conn.), junior Melanie Thulin (Manchester Valley, Vt.)  and sophomore Fiona Stickney (Bayport, N.Y.) rounded out the field for the Pride on Thursday with wins in singles play.
