Junior Sadie Campanella (Chepachet, RI) and sophomore Julie Reddy (Greenville, RI) won at No. 1 and 4 singles, respectively, and combined for a No. 2-doubles victory as the Rhode Island College women's tennis team topped the Suffolk Rams, 8-1, on Saturday afternoon.
Doubles action saw Suffolk (0-2) earn their lone point of the day when sophomore Aidiana Sagyndykova (Almaty, Kazakhstan) and senior Adrianna Garrett (Plymouth, MA) topped the RIC (3-0) duo of freshman Kim Daigle (Sterling, MA) and senior Chelsea Brown (Wallingford, CT), 8-6. No. 2 doubles saw Campanella and Reddy top juniors Rebecca Eshoo (Farmington, CT) and Bella Rathler, 8-3. Third doubles saw the Anchorwomen take the 2-1 edge when sophomores Noelle Tiberi (Smithfield, RI) and Jorgie Martin (Smithfield, RI) topped the duo of Anna Gleason and sophomore Abby Trigilio (Ipswich, MA) 8-3.
Singles saw a complete RIC sweep, earning six of six possible points. Campanella defeated Sagyndykova at first singles (6-4, 7-5). Daigle defeated Garrett (4-6, 6-1, 6-0) at No. 2, while Brown defeated Eshoo (6-1, 6-2) at No. 3. At No. 4 singles, Reddy topped Jackie Nakamara (6-0, 6-0), while fifth singles saw junior Tressa Cannata (Cranston, RI) top Rathler (4-6, 6-2, 6-2). The final point of the day saw freshman Laura Nastasi (Smithville, NJ) top Trigilio (6-4, 12-10).
The Anchorwomen have not lost a singles match this season, winning all 18 individual matches during their three-game win streak to start the year.
Suffolk will be back in action on Tuesday as they travel to Bridgewater State University.
