Women's Tennis Sweep To 9-0 Win in GNAC Playoff Opener

The Suffolk University Women's Tennis team took all nine matches for a 9-0 sweep over the Albertus Magnus College Falcons in the Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) Quarterfinal round.

Freshman Aidiana Sagyndykova (Almaty, Kazakhstan) took the top singles match with 6-2, 6-0 straight set victories over freshman Zaida Velazco (Dominican Republic) as the number three seed Rams top the sixth-seeded Falcons.

Sagyndykova opened the evening as she partnered with senior Adrianna Garrett (Plymouth, Mass.) for an 8-0 double set victory in top tandem match.

All six Suffolk players earned multiple wins on the evening for Suffolk as they improve to 5-8 on the season.

Senior Elizabeth Arkins (Melrose, Mass.) and sophomore Rebecca Eshoo (Farmington, Conn.) teamed up for an 8-6 doubles victory in the second match. Arkins was a winner in the third singles match with straight 6-0 victories over junior Malika Grant (Brooklyn, N.Y.). Eshoo was also a winner in straight sets with 6-0, 6-1 victories in the sixth individual match as she topped junior Sogona Sacko (New York, N.Y.).

Garrett and seniors Stacey Politis (Saugus, Mass.) and Melissa Chermely (Walpole, Mass.) record Suffolk's three other singles victories. Chermely and Politis teamed up for an 8-0 victory in the third doubles match.

The loss drops Albertus Magnus to 4-8 on the season which came to a close on Wednesday evening.

Suffolk will advance to Saturday's semi-finals action as they travel to second-seeded Johnson & Wales University.
