Women's Tennis Round Out Regular Season with 8-1 Win

The Suffolk University Women's Tennis team rounded out the 2013 regular season with an 8-1 victory over the University of Saint Joseph Blue Jays on Saturday afternoon.

The victory moves the Rams to a 4-2 record in Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) play on the season. Suffolk finishes the regular season as the number three seed heading into this year's Tournament that will open on Wednesday against sixth-seed Albertus Magnus College.

Suffolk won five of six singles contests on Saturday afternoon while also sweeping all three of their doubles matches.

Freshman Aidiana Sagyndykova (Almaty, Kazakhstan) won a pair of matches on the day, highlighted by her victory in the top singles match, 6-2 and 6-3. Sagyndykova finishes the regular season with a 3-3 mark in singles play as the Rams' top individual player. She was 3-1 in GNAC contests thus far in 2013.

Sagyndkykova earlier partnered with senior Adrianna Garrett (Plymouth, Mass.) for an 8-4 victory in the top doubles match. Garrett also was victorious in the number two singles game on the afternoon.

Senior Melissa Chermely (Walpole, Mass.) was also a multiple victor on the day as she won the number four individual game in straight 6-0 sets. Chermley also partnered with senior Stacey Politis (Saugus, Mass.) for an 8-6 win the second doubles contest.

Freshman Abby Trigilio (Ipswich, Mass.) upped her singles season record to 4-4 with a victory in the sixth singles game. Trigilio and sophomore Rebecca Eshoo (Farmington, Conn.) partnered in the third doubles game for an 8-1 victory.

The meeting on Wednesday will be the second this season between Albertus Magnus and Suffolk. Suffolk topped the Falcons 8-1 on October 14.
