Women's Tennis Top Anna Maria 7-2

The Suffolk University Women's Tennis team were victorious 7-2 over the Anna Maria College AMCATS in Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) action on Saturday afternoon.

Suffolk took five of six singles matches and a pair of doubles contests for their first win of the 2013 season.

Sophomore Rebecca Eshoo (Farmington, Conn.) was the lone Suffolk player to earn multiple victories on the day as she was a winner in the number four singles position with straight 6-2 victories after pairing with freshman Lindsay Reese (Saco, Me.) for an 8-1 victory in the third doubles game.

Freshman Aidiana Sagyndykova (Almaty, Kazakhstan) was a winner in the top singles match as she defeated freshman Jessica Guatieri (North Attleboro, Mass.) in a pair of tiebeakers, 7-6 and 7-5.

Guatieri helped earn one of the two victories for the AMCATS as she partnered with junior Nicole Goudreau (Harrisville, R.I.) for an 8-6 victory in the top doubles match. Senior Victoria Minotti (Shelton, Conn.) picked up Anna Maria's lone singles victory in the third game with 7-6 and 6-4 set wins.

Seniors Adrianna Garrett (Plymouth, Mass.), Melissa Chermely (Walpole, Mass.) and freshman Abby Trigilio (Ipswich, Mass.) earned Suffolk's three other victories on the afternoon in singles competition. Senior Allison Weisenbach (Hamden, Conn.) and senior Lizzy Arkins (Melrose, Mass.) partnered for an 8-6 victory in doubles play to round out the field for Suffolk.

Both teams will be back on the court on Wednesday in GNAC action. Anna Maria will host Johnson & Wales at 4:00pm, while Suffolk hosts Simmons at 6:00pm.
