JWU tops Women's Tennis in GNAC Action, 8-1

ales University women's tennis squad posted a commanding 8-1 victory against Suffolk in a Great Northeast Athletic Conference contest on the Moses Brown Courts on Saturday afternoon.

Junior Samantha Jo Borr (Westfield, N.J.) once again led the way for Johnson & Wales, posting a 6-1, 6-1 win at the No. 1 singles spot while teaming with senior Ansley Sego (Naperville, Ill.) for a 8-2 win at No. 1 doubles.  Sego also recorded a 7-5, 6-3 victory at fourth singles for the Wildcats.  Freshman Morgan Thompson (Fargo, N.D.) recorded a perfect 6-0, 6-0 at No. 2 singles and teamed with senior Darcy Predieri (Sunbury, Ohio) for an 8-3 win at the second doubles spot.  Predieri also had a 6-1, 6-0 victory at No. 3 singles for JWU.  Sophomore Emily Glass (Sterling, Conn.) notched a pair of wins on the day for the Wildcats.

Freshman Abby Trigilio (Ipswich, Mass.) was the lone Rams' player to be victorious on the day as she won the number six singles set, 6-1 in a tiebreaker.


With the win Johnson & Wales improves to 5-1 on the year and 1-0 in the GNAC while Suffolk falls to 0-4 for the season and 0-1 in league play.  The Wildcats will return to action on Saturday, September 28th when they host St. Joseph of Connecticut in a GNAC contest starting at 12:00 p.m.
