RIC Stops Suffolk In Season Opener 8-1

Paced by another outstanding effort from freshman Julie Reddy (Greenville, RI), the Rhode Island College women's tennis team opened the 2013 season with a 4-0 record for the first time since 2009 after the Anchorwomen dispatched Suffolk University, 8-1, at the RIC Tennis Courts on Saturday afternoon in non-conference action.

Reddy improved to a perfect 4-0 at No. 4 singles on the season after earning a 6-1, 6-0 victory on Saturday over Suffolk senior Allison Weisenbach (Hamden, CT). Meanwhile, Reddy and her partner, freshman Noelle Tiberi (Smithfield, RI), cruised to another victory at No. 2 doubles, 8-5, to improve their record to a perfect 4-0 on the season as well.

Tiberi was one of five Anchorwomen to record multiple victories on the day, as she ran away with a 6-2, 6-2 triumph at No. 5 singles to go along with her doubles win. Sophomore Sadie Campanella (Chepachet, RI) picked up a 6-4, 6-0 victory at No. 1 singles, while also earning an 8-5 victory at No. 1 doubles alongside freshman Jorgie Martin (Smithfield, RI).

Junior Chelsea Brown (Wallingford, CT) and sophomore Tressa Cannata (Cranston, RI) upped their record to 2-0 at No. 3 doubles on the year with an 8-2 victory on Saturday, while Brown (6-2, 6-0) and Cannata (6-0, 6-0) both registered wins at No. 2 and No. 3 singles, respectively.

Suffolk (0-1) picked up its lone win on the day at No. 6 singles when sophomore Rebecca Eshoo (Farmington, CT) was victorious over Martin, 6-3, 6-1.
