Women's Tennis Fall In Playoffs, 6-3

The Suffolk University Women's Tennis team fell in the quarterfinal round of the 2012 Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) Tournament to the fourth-seeded Johnson & Wales University Wildcats, 6-3 on Wednesday evening.

Sophomore Adrianna Garrett (Plymouth, Mass.) was a multiple winner on the evening for the Rams as she improved her season record in singles play to 10-5. Garrett won back to back sets, 6-0, 6-1 for the Rams. Earlier in the evening she partnered with senior Allison Weisenbach (Hamden, Conn.) for a 9-7 victory in the second doubles match. The victory moved the pair to a 6-2 record on the season.

Junior Melissa Chermely (Walpole, Mass.) was the other victor on the evening for the Rams as she took the sixth singles game, 7-6, and 6-2.

Samantha Jo Borr was the lone player for the Wildcats to win in both singles and doubles play. Borr took the top singles game 6-1, 6-2 as she earlier partnered with Laura Schwenk for an 8-3 win in the top doubles game.

With the victory Johnson & Wales now moves on to the semi-finals against top ranked Simmons College.

The loss ends the season for Suffolk, who finish 2012 with a 7-8 record.
