Women's Tennis Sweeps Anna Maria, 9-0 In GNAC Action

The Suffolk University Women's Tennis team earned their first win of the 2012 season in Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) action on Saturday afternoon with a 9-0 sweep of the Anna Maria College AMCATS. The win moves the Rams to a 2-5 overall mark on the season.

In singles action, senior Kelly Conrad (Lanstuhl, Germany) earned her first individual win of the year winning the top match by 6-1, 6-3 scores. Sophomore Erica LeBlanc (Londonderry, N.H.) took the second singles game by an 8-2 margin. The Rams duo combined in earlier action in the top doubles game for an 8-4 victory.

In other action, sophomore Adrianna Garrett (Plymouth, Mass.) and junior Elizabeth Arkins (Melrose, Mass.) combined for an 8-3 doubles victory. Both players also earned wins in singles competition as Garrett was a winner in the third singles game, 6-0, 6-3. Arkins picked up the win in the fourth spot with 6-1, 6-0 scores.

Junior Melissa Chermely (Walpole, Mass.) won consecutive 6-1 sets in the number five singles games after posting a win in doubles competition with senior Allison Weisenbach (Hamden, Conn.). The duo partnered together for the first time this season to earn an 8-2 victory.

Freshman Rebecca Eshoo (Farmington, Conn.) rounded out the field for Suffolk winning the sixth singles match with back-to-back 6-0 sets for her second win of the season.

The Rams will be back in action on Tuesday evening as they host Johnson & Wales University in GNAC competition beginning at 6:00pm.
