Women's Tennis Top Mount Ida 9-0 in Playoff Opener

The Suffolk University Women's Tennis team opened the 2010 Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) Playoffs with a 9-0 win over Mount Ida College.

Freshman Jane Skorobogatova (Novibirsk, Russia) was a multiple winner on the evening topping Emilie Cloutier, 6-1, 6-0 in the top singles match. Skorobogatova and junior Kelly Conrad (Lanstuhl, Germany) partnered earlier in the second doubles match for an 8-0 victory. Conrad was also a winner in the second single match, 6-2, 6-0, over Jessica Lindquist.

The Rams top doubles duo of senior Alex Hernandez-Vallant (Newton, Mass.) and junior Lauren Cameron (Kingston, Jamaica) were winners opening doubles match of the evening as they defeated the Mustangs' top team of Cloutier and Lindquist, 8-1.

Freshman Georgia Ward (Exeter, R.I) and Julianna Riconda (Brewster, N.Y.) partnered for a win in the third doubles match as they were 8-2 victors.

Junior Rebecca Copeland (Bristol, R.I) was a 6-1, 6-0 winner in the third singles spot, while freshmen Lizzy Arkins (Melrose, Mass.), Stacey Politis (Saugus, Mass.) and Melissa Chermley (Walpole, Mass.) were winners for the Rams in singles play as well in the four through six positions.

The third-seeded Rams will now take on number two seed Emerson College (10-1 overall) in the GNAC Semi-Finals on Saturday at 1:00pm.
