Women's Tennis Holds off Beacon, 5-4

Boston, MA - The Suffolk University Women's Tennis team rolled to a 5-4 victory over UMass-Boston on Wednesday afternoon in a non-conference matchup. The Rams used a 2-1 advantage in doubles play as both teams split singles competition to earn their seventh win of the 2009 season.

Junior Alex Hernandez-Vallant (Newton, MA) topped the Beacon's Emily Johnson (Saugus, MA) in the number one singles match, 6-1 and 6-2. Sophomore Lauren Cameron (Kingston, Jamaica) remained undefeated in her singles sets defeating Anitra Kloczewiak (Newton, MA), 6-0, 6-1. Both Hernandez-Vallant and Cameron partnered in doubles play to pick up an 8-3 victory over Johnson and Kloczewiak in the first doubles set.

Sophomore Rebecca Copeland (Bristol, RI) picked up the other two points for the Rams winning her singles match 6-4, 6-0 in the third position for the Rams in singles play. Copeland and partner Brianna Koch (Brasilia, Brazil) earned an 8-6 victory in the second doubles position.

Suffolk will be back in action on Monday as they wrap up their regular season as they host Mount Ida College in a GNAC matchup at 6:15pm.
