Women's Tennis Wraps Up Regular Season with Win

Cambridge, MA - The Suffolk University Women's Tennis team (8-4, 6-2 GNAC) wrapped up the 2009 regular season with a victory over Mount Ida College by a score of 9-0 on Monday evening. The win now guarantees a first-round bye for the Rams who finished second in Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) standings.

Sophomore Lauren Cameron (Kington, Jamaica) once again won 6-0, 6-0 in the second position for the Rams. Cameron finishes the season with a perfect 10-0 record in singles play for the Rams. Cameron finishes 7-0 in GNAC play and 8-0 in the two position, with her other two victories coming in the one spot for Suffolk. In 20 of Cameron's games this year, she has won by a 6-0 score 17 times. Cameron, who was named GNAC Rookie of the Year in 2008, has now pushed her combined record over the past two seasons to 22-0 in singles play.

Cameron also partnered with junior Alexandra Hernandez-Vallant (Newton, MA) on Monday to combine on an 8-1 victory in doubles play. Cameron and Hernandez-Vallant finish the season with an 8-1 record in doubles.

Hernandez-Vallant was also victorious in singles play on Monday for Suffolk as she picked up 6-0, 6-0 wins in the top spot for her third victory in singles play on the season.

Sophomore Kelly Conrad (Lanstahl, Germany) pushed her season record in conference play to 5-2 with a victory in third position for the Rams.

Junior Katelyn Paquette (Southbury, CT) had wins in both singles and doubles play over the Mustangs. Paquette was a winner, 6-0, 6-0 in singles play and then partnered with sophomore Caroline Thorpe (Quincy, MA) for a 8-1 win in doubles play.

Freshman Celia Contreras (Caracas, Venezuela) and senior Thuy Le (Woburn, MA) also earned victories in singles play for the Rams on Monday.

Suffolk will take on Emerson College on Saturday evening in the GNAC Semi-Finals beginning at 5:30pm. Suffolk defeated Emerson earlier this season 5-4. The match will be played at the Winchester Indoor Club.
