BRIDGEWATER, Mass. -- The Bridgewater State College women's
tennis team improved to a perfect 4-0 with a 7-2 victory over
non-conference foe Suffolk University this afternoon at the Rosen
Memorial Tennis Courts in Bridgewater.
Bridgewater captured five of the six singles matches and two of the
three doubles to come away with the win over the Rams (2-1).
Senior Catarina Rosa (Fall River, MA) and sophomore Julie Kraby
(Wrentham, MA) highlighted the victory for the undefeated Bears.
They each won their respective singles matches and teamed up
for an 8-5 triumph at the third doubles flight. Rosa posted a
6-3, 6-2 straight set win at third singles, while Kraby also won in
straight sets at the sixth flight, 6-3, 6-0.
BSC junior Lauren Donnelly (Centerville, MA) won the battle of the
top flight singles players as she prevailed in straight sets, 6-4,
6-1.
Sophomore Lauren Cameron (Kingston, Jamaica) paced
the Rams with a 6-0, 6-0 victory at second flight singles.
She also partnered with junior Alex
Hernandez-Vallant (Newton, MA) for a 9-7 first doubles
win.
Also scoring in singles play for the Bears were senior Paulina
Ucher (Webster, MA) at the fourth flight and junior Jessica Francis
(West Barnstable, MA) at number five. Ucher also paired with
junior Rachel Elman (Rehoboth, MA) for a 8-2 triumph at second
doubles.
The Bears will look to run their winning streak to five straight
matches as they host Little East Conference opponent Southern Maine
on Saturday at 1 PM. Suffolk travels to Saint Joseph College
on Saturday for a noontime Great Northeast Athletic Conference
match.
