KANSAS CITY, Mo. – For the fourth time in as many years, Suffolk women's soccer picked up a United Soccer Coaches Team Ethics and Sportsmanship Award in recognition of its exhibition of fair play, sporting behavior and adherence to the laws of the game. The Rams earned bronze status, the national organization announced.
The Team Ethics and Sportsmanship Award is given to the United Soccer Coaches members at four levels. Team honors at the platinum level went an entire season without a player or coach receiving a yellow or red card. Squads honored at the platinum (no cards accumulated during the season), gold (1-10%), silver (11-30%) and bronze (31-50%) levels are based on a percentage calculated by the total number of cards receiving by players and coaches divided by the team's total number of games.
The Rams fell into the bronze category after receiving just seven yellow cards (41.2 percent) in Suffolk's 18th season, which consisted of 17 contests. The blue-and-gold is one of 29 institutions in the bronze category and is the only Conference of New England (CNE) representative on the 64-team list.
The distinction is Suffolk's 10th overall from the national organization in the Ethics & Sportsmanship category. The accolade is the fourth in a row for the Rams, which is the most consecutive awards since stringing four in a row together from 2008 through 2011. Suffolk has secured bronze: 2017, 2023 and this year, 2024.
