Women’s Soccer's Regular-Season Finale Spoiled at Wentworth, 2-1

BOSTON – A go-ahead goal by Wentworth with 1:53 remaining in regulation handed Suffolk women's soccer a 2-1 Conference of New England setback in the league rivals regular-season finale Tuesday night at Sweeney Field.

HOW IT HAPPENED
Wentworth broke through at the 15:07 mark as a ball off a free kick ricocheted off of two Rams out front to the foot of Rachel Hagerty, who batted in the first score of the night.  

As time ticked off the clock, Suffolk capitalized on an opportunity with 4:05 left on the clock in the conference contest. A pass from Jazmya Harris from below the goal mount found the foot of Kylie Flynn, who knotted the score at one aside.  

Minutes after Suffolk's score the Leopards ran possession down the field with a far shot from Kyra Forsberg nicking the crossbar. The rebound try landed down below Jenny Montville, who ripped the twine to give WIT a 2-1 lead with just under 2:00 minutes left on the clock. 

Time was not on the blue-and-gold's side, but Chelsea Fallon managed to get a shot off. The Leopards' defense blocked the attempt to seal Suffolk's setback. 

KEEPING UP WITH THE KEEPERS

  • Arden Ferrari-Henry had seven saves for Suffolk. 
  • Shyla Kuleza made six stops in the victory.  

STATISTICALLY SPEAKING

  • Flynn scored Suffolk's lone goal. 
  • Harris registered the only assist for the Rams on the night. 
  • Wentworth outshot the Rams, 18-14, and had a 10-7 upperhand in shots on target. 
  • The Leoaprds also took more corner kicks than the Rams, 4-1.  

NOTEWORTHY

  • Suffolk fell to Wentworth for the first time to move to 3-1-0 in the all-time series, which started in 2021. 
  • All four games games between the Rams and Leopards have come as conference clashes.
  • Suffolk is 1-1-0 on the road against WIT. 
  • The Rams are now 2-1-0 against the Leopards under Ellie McDougall's guidance. 
  • Flynn found the back of the net for the first time this season and fifth time in her collegiate career. 
  • Harris had her third assist of the season.
