Maina Tabbed CNE Rookie of the Week

CNE RELEASE

BEVERLY, Mass. – Suffolk women's soccer's Gianna Maina was tabbed Conference of New England (CNE) Rookie of the week after a three-point offensive production in a 1-1-0 week for the Rams, the league office announced Monday.

Maina, a freshman midfielder from Middletown, Delaware, dished out three assists in the 13-0 offensive onslaught of Fisher Tuesday, Sept. 24. The points were the first of the rookie's collegiate career. She is the second Suffolk student-athlete to set-up three strikes in a single-game this season as Catherine Madden accomplished the feat against Framingham State Sept. 7, 2024. It is the first season since 2012 that two Rams have registered three assists in a single game. She is one of six CNE student-athletes to log three assists in a single game this season.

Maina was a crucial component to the most goals scored by the Rams since Suffolk scored 14 in a 14-0 shutout at Anna Maria Oct. 10, 2011. The 13 goals share second all-time in a single game in Suffolk's record book, along the 13-0 decision over Daniel Webster Sept. 7, 2011.

Maina's three points were a part of the blue-and-gold's 41, while her three helpers were 20 percent of the team's 15 total assists, both of which are single-game records for Suffolk.

The weekly distinction, the first of Maina's career, marks the fourth consecutive week a Ram took home a conference's weekly honor. Including Maina, Suffolk has seen three consecutive rookies of the week as Mackenzie Metka and Sinclaire Hart earned the honor Sept. 16 and Sept. 23, respectively. Arden Ferrari-Henry started the weekly award trend as the sophomore was selected CNE Defensive Player of the Week Sept. 9.

Maina and the Rams are back in action Wednesday, Oct. 2 at Rivier at 7:00 p.m.
