BEVERLY, Mass. – Mackenzie Metka of the Suffolk women's soccer team brought home Conference of New England Rookie of the Week honors after helping the Rams post a 2-0-0 week and remain undefeated this season, the league office announced Monday afternoon.
Metka, a freshman from Palmetto Bay, Florida, recorded her first collegiate point in the 4-0 offensive onslaught of Fitchburg State Tuesday, Sept. 10. The midfielder assisted on the game-opening goal, which ended up being the eventual game-winner, to help Suffolk soar past the Falcons.
On Saturday, she played a role in the convincing 9-1 triumph over Framingham State that pushed the blue-and-gold to 5-0-0 on the year, which adds to the best start in program history. The victory over the FSU Rams marked Suffolk's fifth straight triumph, the longest win streak since winning five games Oct. 8-17, 2016.
Metka's first weekly recognition is the second for Suffolk this season as Arden Ferrari-Henry collected CNE Defensive Player of the Week Sept. 9. Metka is the first Rams' rookie to be tabbed the league's best rookie in a seven-day stretch since Avery Porter earned the distinction Sept. 11, 2023.
Metka and the Rams return to action tomorrow, Tuesday, Sept. 17 when they visit Lesley for a 7:00 p.m. outing.
