Barker Tabbed CCC Defensive Player and Rookie of the Week

CCC RELEASE

BIDDEFORD, Maine – For the second time this season, Sophia Barker of the Suffolk women's soccer team grabbed a pair of weekly awards from the Commonwealth Coast Conference as the freshman was named CCC Defensive Player and Rookie of the Week, the league office announced.

An Old Saybrook, Connecticut native, Barker and the Rams faced a tough test on Saturday as Suffolk hosted Endicott in an important CCC matchup. The blue-and-gold goalie gloves was up to the task, denying 15 Gull opportunities to backstop the Rams to a scoreless draw against Endicott. The 15 stops were a career-high for Barker and most saves by a Suffolk goalkeeper since Allison Rodrigues registered 15 in a 3-0 setback at Saint Joseph's (Maine), Oct. 23, 2019.

Barker took home both defensive player and rookie of the week honors for the second time this season to bring her career total to four. With the quartet honors this year, Barker is now the most weekly decorated player in the CCC era of Suffolk women's soccer, surpassing Jazmya Harris' three weekly accolades from the conference in 2021.

Suffolk and Barker are back in action tomorrow, Tuesday, Sept. 27 against Fisher at 7 p.m. at James A. Sartori Stadium at East Boston Memorial Park
