BIDDEFORD, Maine – In a vote by the Commonwealth Coast Conference (CCC) 10 head coaches, the Suffolk women's soccer team has been predicted to finish sixth in the preseason coaches' poll, released Tuesday by the conference office.
With 43 points, the Rams finished in a share of sixth place alongside Salve Regina and ahead of Curry (29), Wentworth (23) and Nichols (17).
Both Endicott and Gordon received four first place votes apiece, but it was the Gulls last year's CCC regular-season champ, that were predicted as the preseason favorites with 92 points. The reining CCC Tournament victor, the Fighting Scots, slid into second with 89 points and the 2021 CCC Tournament runner-up Roger Williams, that received a pair of first place picks, rounded out the top three with 78 points.
The University of New England (73) and Western New England (63) preceded Suffolk and Salve Regina in fourth and fifth, respectively.
Suffolk's 16th season will be the first under head coach Ellie McDougall. The fourth head coach in program history takes over a squad that compiled an 11-6-0, the second-most victories in the Rams' record book with eight of those victories coming in shutout fashion.
Back in blue-and-gold looking to lead the pack are United Soccer Coaches Region II selections and All-CCC honorees Grace Owens and Hayley Long (5g, 2a).
The McDougall era of Suffolk women's soccer commences Thursday, Sept. 1 at Elms at 7 p.m.
